Adapting to a New Life Lifestyle

If you are like me, you don’t really welcome change.  It’s uncomfortable and I often feel stupid at times! When I first began Banting this is exactly how I felt, I could barely explain it to myself let alone others.

I have been on this journey for about 8 months now and I can confidently say that I am still in the adaptation phase.  I have a greater theoretical understanding about the low-carb, high-fat diet, and I learn something new about my body every day.

Test and Adjust

With each day that passes I am able to get better. I have identified certain triggers and environments where I am more prone to temptations, and actually giving in to those temptations. It is key to recognise what our triggers are, and then put a plan in place to counter it.

From my experience, if you don’t have a plan in place before you find yourself in a vulnerable position you will almost always give in.

On the other side of the coin, if something is working, if you find a certain environment inspiring and encouraging, then do all that you can to place yourself there more often. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, then create it!

It’s a Journey

When are aircraft takes off it knows its destination.  The pilots have a very detailed plan in place.  However, things happen, a storm may develop, or they could be pushed off course by strong winds.  Should this happen, they wouldn’t turn around and start over, they would simply amend their original plan. The destination, however, remains the same.

When I slip up I simply learn from what has happened, and put a plan in place for the next time.

My destination will always remain the same – I never want to have to take pills every day of my life or be bed ridden. I want to live a healthy and active lifestyle for as long as I live!

What’s your destination?
