If you have done some research about low-carb you will most likely have come across the word ketosis.
WHAT IS KETOSIS?
When carbohydrates are restricted, our bodies begin a process called ketosis. A process by which the body produces small fuel molecules called ‘ketones’. The body and brain uses this as an alternative fuel source when blood sugar (glucose) is low.
When you are in ketosis your entire body is running almost entirely on fat. Your insulin levels are very low because there is very little carbohydrate intake, which dramatically reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, amongst other things. There have even been success stories of type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic diseases being reversed by following a low-carb, high-fat diet.
